Sept 05 - Solfest Excellent music festival in Cumbria
August 2005 Sherwood Forest camping in Camber Park. Ross Neigr in Anglesey. Summer 2005 (may-june) 2 trips down to the peak disctrict and another to Anglesey where we convoyed with the 2 new members of the funplace2camp VW club! Below you'll see daveshacks new t-25 and Shane and Lindas bay purchased at Vanfest 2004! That's 4 people that have been inspired to join us in the camper van quest! April 2005 Bedgellert - excellent camp site and mountain biking. September 2004 August 2004 part 2 We took the van over to the Colne R+B festival and the Leeds festival. It was brilliant all round - but we had yet another comedy running round Leeds looking for LPG! I really wish we'd bought that book now! August 2004 part 1 We had a bit of a delay with the respray job before we went down to Cornwall. Because of the delay - we sped down to Cornwall and subsequently - the temperature light came on repeatedly! In the end - we parked up in an off road lay by and then set off again at 7am. The van did over 800 miles mainly on LPG. It even managed 200 miles on a full tank of LPG for about £16. It struggled to start on petrol - so we had to drive through busy Worcester looking for LPG with about 1 mile of LPG in the tank! Finally - we found the holy grail just as we were about to run out - LPG for 32p a litre as opposed to 39p!! In Cornwall - we camped near Gwthian (below) where the awning came in handy! We also managed to wing a free camping spot nearby at Porth Towan. Free camping spot at Porth Towan
Gloomy morning at Porth Towan
Great little campsite near the Eden project We went to see Supergrass play at the Eden project - and got this nearby campsite for a fiver a night. They opened a new field - which was a bit sloped - but the chocks came in handy!
July 2004 July was mainly spent taking the van down to the New Forest, round Ireland (with my folks), and the Wakestock festival in Snowdonia. We also spluttered down to the Peak district for a night in a place called Hope near Edale.
The Simpson family steal the van at Cannock Chase June 2004 First trip was our wedding anniversary. We didn’t want to go far as this was its first outing. We ended up at a place called Waddington. We pulled up at the site, got electric hook-up and all was well. We were amazed that we had actually got one and it was so cool! Had champagne and watched the 12v TV for a bit then listened to some tunes. Next day we headed off to Keswick and joined the camping and caravanning club. There was no electric hook-ups left, but the night before we had been warm enough without the need for any heaters so we decided to go for it. We had a nice spot overlooking Derwentwater. Had a few beers and went into Keswick for a curry. Again we had a brilliant time. Next morning we drove to the supermarket and got some ingredients and made lunch in the back of the van. We set off home and decided to stop for petrol. All was going well until I tried to drive off the forecourt. Tried to turn the engine over and nothing! OMG!! went inside the garage to ask if they had any ideas what it could be..... "Have you put the right petrol in love?!" .....mmmm.... well we had all kinds of reasons, none of which sounded right to me, so I rang the AA. 20 minutes later after blocking the petrol pump on a very small forecourt which only had two pumps!, a very nice man came out and towed us off the forecourt before having a look. It turned out to be the starter solenoid. It was green apparently. Anyway, he cleaned it and tightened it up and away we went! What a very nice man! All part of the adventure I reckon. Next outing was to the Yorkshire dales - Arncliffe to be exact. Nice little site and we parked next to a vw which had a mini bar! mmm, cogs started going round in my head...... Anyway we had a lovely time, went to Brimham rocks and I must say the van managed very well with the 20 odd % gradient hills! The van also went on its first big distance trip to the fabulous Valley of the rocks, Trearddur Bay in Anglesey. |
