Problems- last update (21/09/05)Considering the van did over 12,000 miles last year and has performed amazingly. However, we thought it might be useful to write down some of the niggles we've had so far: Gearbox - [resolved]Van went in for its MOT, passes with flying colours and the folks in the garage broke the gearbox! Fortunately, managed to source a second hand gearbox and Manchester Air Cooled fitted it in time for VANFEST! Brakes - [resolved] The brake light kept coming on and the brakes were leaking, but we got this sorted for around £300. Electrics and water tap pump - [resolved]The van was a little rough when we got it - so it had to have a few general repairs like the electrics repairing etc. , fan belt and the sinks pump needed fixing. The 3 way fridge we got with the van was more like a no way - so we bought a cigarette lighter fridge from Halfords to replace it. Starter Solenoid - [resolved]When we first got the van - we went up to the lakes. On setting off home - we filled up with petrol and the van wouldnt even turn over - never mind start! After many theories on the matter - a very nice AA man came out - brushed the moss off the starter solenoid - and we never had the problem again! Oil light - [resolved]The oil light comes on occasionally - but apparently - this is usually an electrical fault with t-25's - the oil level is always fine. Speedo cable - [resolved]After a technically uneventful drive down to Vanfest 2004 - on driving into the site - the speedo went dead. We had a feeling the cable had been on its way out for a while, as the speedo used to be a bit erratic and sometimes make a loud whirring noise. We managed to pick up a new speedo cable at Vanfest and once fitted - the speedo worked perfectly again! Thanks to Club 80-90's Grumpy Midget for his advice on this one. The cables cost around £12 and attach from under the dash, through the radiator and out of the passenger side wheel. General running and cutting out - [resolved]The van does this from time to time particularly when running on petrol or when it's wet. One time when this was a nighmarish problem Club 80-90's Hacksaw Bob and Sven cunningly fixed it by securing a small air pipe. This can also potentially be caused by the LPG mix being wrong - this can be adjusted. Water / Temperature lights - [resolved]Ever since we bought it, the van has overheated periodically, particularly when driving quickly or on a hot day. After much speculation and many theories it was finally solved today. Turned out to be a dodgy new thermostat that didnt open and also a blocked pipe. Make sure you always have high quality permanent anti-freeze, to prevent pipe clogging - thanks much to Steve 80-90 for finally putting this one to rest! Not starting on Petrol - [resolved]I really wish we had bought that book on LPG station locations now! We've had some comedy near misses finding LPG recently. LPG is fantastic, but having a petrol backup tank is essential. Steve 80-90 managed to resolve this by putting on a new petrol pump - good onya steve - thanks. |
