July / August 2004 July was mainly spent taking the van down to the New Forest, round Ireland, and the Wakestock festival in Snowdonia. We did have time though to fit seatbelts in the back. One seatbelt and one lap-belt (at the LPG tank side) MANY thanks go to Euan for taking an evening out to help us do this. The Van also got re-organised a bit and the addition of a little metallic blue bin. May / June 2004 A lot of hard work has gone into Bertie over the last couple of months. Virtually every weekend has been spent on the interior. A BIG thankyou is due to my Unlce Benny for his help with the woodwork (and also the use of his power tools!), and also to my mum and auntie Susan who made the fully lined curtains (to help keep us warm when its cold!) and re-upholstered the rear seat and bed. Numerous trips were made to the Clays the local wood merchants, Focus, and various material places - Blackburn Market and the remnants section of Oswaldtwistle Mills. Amazing what you find on ends of rolls! latest modification - cow covers from Argos
latest modification - kitchen area latest modification - fridge powered by cigarette lighter latest modification - portaloo in the box. latest modification - handmade settee cushions and rock n roll beds (with piping for that pro finish!)
latest modification - cunning boxes with piano hinges (also double as arm rests) latest modification - hand made curtains with lining March / April 2004 When we bought the van, the back bench back rest was bolted in place. This was then removed and bolted on to the end of the seat to form part of the bed. After using this twice we decided this had to go as it was just too fiddly and not very strong. We had heard about rock n roll beds from the just campers website and club 80-90 website. These worked in a similar fashion to the futon we had at home. It was then I remembered that we had a spare set of hinges for one of these....... Maybe these could be used in the van!! he he this sparked what was to become a total internal transformation! Whilst the auto electrician was wiring up the van we though we would get him to put the fridge on the relay switch. it was then we found out that the wires had been cut, and what we originally though was a 3 way fridge turned out to only work on gas. There was no flue connected so it was unsafe to use it in this manner. Rather than have a flue fitted, we decided to replace the fridge with an electric cool box from halfords (which was half price in the sale! and about a 1/4 of the price of a replacement 3 way fridge!!!) On taking out the fridge we then found out that the unit had in fact been glued to the sides of the fridge. Bugger! We would have to replace the kitchen units aswell! The rock n roll / futon hybrid beds worked out alright and work a treat! the cupboards look ace aswell, and although look quite simple, a lot of work has gone into making sure they fit perfectly against the inside of the van - Again thanks to my uncle!!! We now have two large storage areas in the back and two smaller ones at the side of the seat. This makes it look like armrests and looks dead slick! With the help of my uncle again (In fact he did most of it as he has lots of experience in woodwork!) we set about changing the back seat / bench. We then decided to replace the small amount of storage space at the sides of the bed with something slightly higher. well if we were going to change the kitchen area, we would have to change the storage areas or they wouldn't match! old interior old interior |
