Nice campsite by a ruined Abbey and at the bottom of the Horseshoe Pass. Site has a few hookups in the smaller field and a larger field for when that gets full. Site has a tearoom with tasty burgers and a shop that sells farm produced meat including a great BBQ deal. Nearby are 2 pubs, just up the hill, with a campsite discount offered in one of them. Llangollen is approx a 2 mile walk away on the canal. Follow the footpath sign by the Abbey, up the steps, turn left down the track and follow the track to the left. Cross the road and walk a few yards to the right and cross the canal by the bridge. Then follow the canal to Llangollen. There is a steam train from Llangollen to Carrog. I'd recommend driving to Carrog for the train as there is ample free parking. Return ticket was £10. Campsite was £11.50 a night for 2 in a camper (2009) |
