Nicely appointed flat campsite and a great alternative to the over-crowded and expensive NT site with stunning views of the Pikes. No being made to park the van with the cars here like the NT site!!!! And only 10 pounds (2008) a night for 2 adults in August!!!! Plus it has it's own bacon butty van!!!!!!!!! 10 squid with free hot showers is unheard of in the ever increasingly expensive Lakes imo.
2 pubs within very easy walking distance
Wainwrights Arms in Chapel Stile - sells food and ales. Follow site track over bridge back to road. Just before road follow footpath signed 'Village Centre' this brings you to the pub.
Britannia Inn, Elterwater - serves food and Ales including Coniston Bluebird on draft and there own Coniston Brewery special ale.Leave Wainwrights Arms, just after the gravel car park follow bridleway on the right, cross the bridge eventually coming to a quiet tarmac track. Follow track downhill to T-juntion and bear left to pub.
Virtually all on easy well maintained flat paths.
Alternatively there are 3 more (uber busy) pubs further down Great Langdale valley towards the NT site. Just follow the B road, or the footpath track on the left if you have an OS map
